Franceline Pompe (Luxembourg, 1963) lives and works in the Netherlands. For her paintings
she uses mainly natural canvas and acrylic paint, sometimes black (or rarely, white) cloth is tightly
stitched onto the canvas to enhance the outline of a figure. The subject of her art is most often one
or several persons, without ever becoming a portrait. In fact, one seldom sees the face but it is
through certain gestures or poses that these persons are 'portrayed'. Sometimes her paintings show
no one at all, but traces of human presence, either through objects or in a landscape.
